A German school with a strong international section
The German European School Manila (GESM) is a German school with an international section. GESM offers all grades from Kindergarten/Primary through Grade 12. The students study towards an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, preferably in its GIB-form, fostering the German language in Biology and History. While GESM is primarily for German-speaking students or students willing to learn the language to a near-native level of knowledge, its European or International Section provides appealing options for English speakers, among them high-quality language degrees in German, opening the perspective of studying and working in Germany or working together with German institutions and companies in Asia..
GESM is an accredited German School Abroad and has been twice awarded the certificate 'Excellent German School Abroad', first in 2011, and again in 2017. GESM starts with Kindergarten and culminates with an accredited German degree after Grade 10 giving access to German 'Qualifikationsphase der gymnasialen Oberstufe.' Our teachers instruct according to a standard G8 German syllabus. The English language lessons are particularly demanding and students are encouraged to write the IGCSE English Language exam at the end of Grade 10.
Grade 11 students commence the bilingual German-English IB Diploma Programme (GIB), which is an equivalent to the German 'Abitur.'
The International Section starts with Kindergarten following the syllabus of the Primary Years Programme. The GESM's International Section is in itself an authorised IB World School. At the end of Grade 10, students sit the IGCSE exams and are encouraged to write the German certificate: 'Erstes Deutsches Sprachdiplom'Later on they can complete their German skills with the Second Diploma of German, offering them direct access to studies at German and Austrian universities.
