This online exhibition features works by students of the German European School Manila (GESM) fulfilling their requirements for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
ON THE EXHIBITION
German Weimar period comedian Karl Valentin's eponymous quote can't sum it up more precisely:

"Art is beautiful, but involves a lot of work."

The genius of this sentence lies probably in the choice of the verb machen in the original German (translated above into the less flexible but otherwise comparatively vague "involves"). Within this single usage, it could be understood in either of two ways: (1) that art requires work to be beautiful or (2) that it creates work, by or in addition to being beautiful.

In this two-pronged online exhibition, our students Sofia Mae Rivera and Andrea Kirsten Sanculi flesh out Valentin's quote after these two directions of interpretations.

Action produces art and beauty.
But art calls for action in turn.

THE HALF OF ME
THE HALF OF US
SOFIA RIVERA
“There is only so much you can discover about a person by how they portray themselves… We are all a fractionally small portion of something so massive. And my art is how I intend to express my ideas, my mind and my reality, sharing a piece of myself in the process.”
