MESSAGE
FROM THE
HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear parents, dear students, dear teachers,
As announced in the last circular this week concentrated very much on the final oral examinations of grade 10 D. Since Monday Ms. Bauni, the Federal States Chairperson of the Federal Government-Federal States Committee for Schools Abroad visited GESM to do lesson visits, to talk to the Headmaster of the Lycée Francais de Manille, to meet with the members of GESM school management and of course to chair the examinations. On Thursday, the final examination day, representatives of the GESM Board of Directors and of German Embassy as well as some students of grade 9 D were present to see the exams. All examinations were quite successful as all students passed the exams and so today received their final results. On May 26 during the graduation party all students will receive their certificates.

Furthermore today the IB exams finally came to an end with French the last subject to conclude. This week IGCSE Exams began – I wish all participants of grade 10 i all success!

Yesterday evening GESM was present at the 40th Anniversary celebration of the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP). GESM was one of the lounge sponsors.
From our participants at the Cultural Festival of the German Schools in South East Asia in Kuala Lumpur we received the message that all arrived safely, enjoyed the great opening show, participate in various art workshops and that everyone is looking forward to the great final show on Saturday. Next week we expect all back to Manila sharing with us their impressions and experiences.

Message from the Board
Dear fellow Parents,
Greetings from your board of directors! The school year 2017/2018 is already coming to an end, and preparations for a good start into the school year 2018/2019 are well under way.
The Board has been working on several initiatives this school year which include improving the IT infrastructure (e.g. faster internet), developing a longer-term mission, vision, and action plan for the strategic development of the school, as well as enhancing our marketing and communication platforms (e.g. new website). Plans are also underway to apply for funding from the German government for upcoming renovation and construction work, cooperating closely with our French counterparts on these plans.
Regarding the operating budget, the Board of Directors completed its annual review of the financial status of the School. Since incurring a small operating loss during the school year 2016/17, tuition fees have to be set at a level that grow in line with increasing costs of the School. For the next school year, the Board approved an increase in tuition fees of 4.5% which is broadly in line with the latest Philippine inflation numbers, as well as the increase in tuition fees of other international schools in Manila. The new tuition fee structure, effective on 1 August 2018, can be viewed here.
We wish you and your children success as we approach the end of the school year, and we look forward to seeing you at one of the many school events over the next few weeks.
Yours sincerely,

The Board of Directors
