After many years, a chess tournament finally took place again on the GESM campus. In collaboration with our club teacher Ferdinand Reyes, The Filipino Chess Connection (TFCC), and the Chess Moves Club (CMC), over 50 students from 11 different schools and academies participated.
The chess tournament was more than just a competition. It was an opportunity for students to sharpen their intellectual abilities, improve their strategic skills, and above all, have a lot of fun.
The participants, the youngest of whom was just 5 years old, ranged from beginners to experienced players, and competed in a fair and respectful contest. Over the course of 5 rounds, every move was made with care, and players had to think quickly while planning their strategies for victory.
The tournament was also an opportunity for students to form new friendships and connect with like-minded individuals. There were moments of joy over won games and moments of disappointment over losses, but at the end of the day, there was always recognition of each other's achievements and respect for the game itself.
The chess tournament was not only an event for the students, but also for the parents, who were present as spectators and supporters.
As the last games were played and the winners crowned, the memory of an event that goes far beyond the chessboard remains. It is a memory of the importance of competition, collaboration, and above all, the joy of the game.
