21st Century Learning: Using iPads inside and Outside the Classrooms

by Viola Buck

Now that we have 1:1 iPad to student ratio, we're ready to further explore the world using technology! Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the PYP provides opportunities to enhance teaching and learning using various technologies that students can use to investigate, create, communicate and collaborate. The use of technology is a great educational experience for the children as they learn digital literacy and how to be responsible Digital Citizens.

In the PYP we help our students develop key ICT skills in a range of applications including computer programming, word processing, digital graphics, databases, spreadsheets, email, presentations, video/animation and the responsible use of the internet. They also learn wider issues such as Internet Safety.

In Unit 3 and 4, we are excited to see how our students are developing their confidence using digital graphics and simple animations. Part of our ICT Curriculum is for our young learners Be able to Import and edit images from a range of sources – such as clip art, the internet, digital cameras, mobile phones  – and to use these to create their own design. Grades 1 and 2 took some snapshots of their favourite places in GESM and added more graphic design to make them more creative. Super work, ICT superstars!
