On March 12, 2025, parents gathered for the Coffee Morning at the German European School Manila (GESM) to focus on the theme of "reading."
The morning began with a creative introduction: a cartoon was presented, humorously depicting a book as a "foreign or unknown being." This playful representation served as an icebreaker and set the tone for the event.
As the session continued, participants had the opportunity to introduce their favorite books. These personal insights into reading preferences sparked engaging discussions and lively exchanges about various genres and authors. The conversation also explored why reading is such an essential skill, covering aspects such as fostering empathy, improving concentration, and its role in cognitive development.
GESM reaffirmed its commitment to promoting reading skills among all students. The school presented various initiatives designed to support and encourage reading, including special reading programs, the integration of reading sessions into the daily curriculum, and the availability of diverse reading materials in the school library.
To conclude the Coffee Morning, useful links and resources on reading were shared, helping participants and their children discover new literary worlds.
Overall, the event was a great success, highlighting the importance of reading for both personal and academic development. It was a morning enriched not only by coffee, but also by inspiring conversations and new insights.
