A visit to the National Mapping and Resource Authority (NAMRIA)

Updated: 6 days ago

On Monday 4th November, Grade 3A, Grade 3B and Klasse 3 had their field trip to support Unit 2 'Where We Are in Place and Time'. We visited the National Mapping and Resource Authority (NAMRIA) where students learned the history of Philippine surveying and mapping from 1900 to present. We were able to view the collection of old instruments and equipment previously used to survey the Philippine archipelago. The map gallery displayed various kinds of maps from early Spanish maps to the first NAMRIA produced analogue and digital topographic maps, nautical charts and land classification maps.

After visiting the NAMRIA museum, we moved on to the Manila American Cemetery. At the interpretive visitor centre, students viewed the exhibit gallery and learned about the Philippines involvement in World War 2. They were each given a junior guide booklet, encouraging them to fact-find and complete activities and puzzles. At the end of the visit, they were given a wooden coin and junior guide badge as souvenirs of their trip.

Thank you to NAMRIA and to the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial for providing us with such a memorable and hands-on learning experience.
