"Born to teach" - Phil German Language Teachers Conference '22

by Volker Schlieske

On May 14, right on time at 4:00 p.m., the gates of the Zoom Waiting Room opened to the sounds of the German band 'Unheilig' (Born to Live) for the first event of this year's German Teachers' Conference (DLT) in Manila. Almost 40 dedicated German teachers from German language schools in the Philippines flocked to the virtual platform and experienced an educational, exceedingly cheerful and emotional afternoon. Emotional, too, because the focus of the first event was the topic "All this is Germany - using German music in German lessons". The first event was led by the German European School Manila, which had three speakers (Demet Ungör, Christoph Felberbauer and Volker Schlieske) who made the participants think, talk and even sing along.

In parts asynchronous :-), but with all the more passion and joy, the participants interpreted the song "Geboren, um zu leben" together with the organizers at the end of the event and thus provided a fitting emotional conclusion to the event.

Many thanks to our technical support of the DESM Mr. Shadin Kitma, who not only ensured the smooth running of the event with his technical know-how, but also conducted the choir of German teachers at the end like clockwork.

The DESM workshop was the first of the three events of this year's DLT, which will continue on May 21 and 28 with speakers from the Goethe-Institut and the European Language Department of UP.

The DLT is held every year at the initiative of the DAAD in collaboration with the European Language Department of UP (University of the Philippines), the Goethe-Institut and the German European School Manila. It informs about the latest developments in the field of DaF teaching and serves the exchange and networking.
