German Unity Day at the Early Years

by Jan Sönke

In celebration of October 3rd, the previous day was entirely dedicated to the theme of “Germany.” In a thoughtfully organized activity, the kindergarten, preschool, pre-primary, and English kindergarten classes were divided into mixed groups to experience some typical German traditions together. The children eagerly crafted and worked creatively: they made Germany-themed bracelets and decorated their toasts in the colors of the German flag – black with Nutella, red with strawberry jam, and gold with butter.

One of the highlights was the game of Topfschlagen, a staple at any children's party in Germany. Blindfolded and equipped with a wooden spoon, the children enthusiastically searched for the hidden pot while their group members cheered them on and provided guidance.

The atmosphere was fantastic, and the children from both sections blended harmoniously together. All in all, it was a successful day filled with joy and a playful introduction to German traditions, which the children clearly enjoyed!
