Updated: May 24

The German European School Manila (GESM) proudly hosted the Philippine German Language Teachers' Conference 2024 from May 17th to 18th. This event was a collaborative effort in partnership with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Goethe-Institut Manila, and the University of the Philippines-Diliman Department of European Languages (UP-DEL). These institutions stand as pillars for German language education in the Philippines.

The conference showcased nine workshops led by selected facilitators, including esteemed teachers from GESM: Maximilian Schrievers, Demi Üngör, and Volker Schlieske. Attendees included German language educators from various parts of the Philippines, with guests traveling from Olongapo City and Cebu City to participate.

Notable German textbook publishers such as Hueber, Klett, and Cornelsen were also prominently featured throughout the two-day event, offering workshops and showcasing their publications in an enriching book exhibition.

Die Veranstaltung wurde zusätzlich durch eine motivierende Videobotschaft der philippinischen Senatorin Loren Legarda bereichert, einer Fürsprecherin für Kultur und Kunst auf den Philippinen und selbst eine Deutschlernende!

Overall, the conference served as an invaluable platform for networking and learning, furthering the promotion of German language education in the Philippines. It exemplified a shared commitment among educators to enhance the teaching and learning of German, fostering cultural exchange and linguistic proficiency in the region.
