For the fourth year in a row, the IB1 (Grade 11) students of GESM attended the annual sustainability event hosted by the International School Manila (ISM). This event encouraged students to take action for the planet, aiming to inspire the next generation to protect our only home—Earth.
The students took part in a variety of workshops that helped widen their understanding of sustainability from different perspectives. This year's event brought together international schools from across Metro Manila, to generate ideas and solutions to help local communities become more sustainable. The starting point? The very place where students spend most of their time—school.
One of the key workshops was the Policy Making Workshop, where students had the chance to create and discuss rules that could contribute to making their school more sustainable. Through group discussions, the students from GESM were able to share the sustainability goals of their school and learn from the ideas and actions of other students.
Another exciting workshop, according to the students, was led by experts from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This session explored sustainability from both a cultural and economic standpoint. The ADB workshop gave students an in-depth look at the balance between economic growth and environmental preservation, teaching them how sustainability can differ across cultures and economies.
Overall, the event was filled with valuable insights and learning experiences, offering knowledge that students can share with others to help make their environment more eco-friendly. The Grade 11 students left the summit full of ideas to improve sustainability and with a passion to use their creativity to positively impact their local community.
The GESM students are already looking forward to returning to the summit again next year!
