On Friday 7th March, Grade 3A and 3B had an exciting and educational field trip to Makati City Hall. This trip gave our students the chance to explore local government operations firsthand and learn about the history of Makati City Hall, the government structure, and about the important roles that city officials and employees play in our community.
The students were first welcomed by staff at the City Hall, given a presentation in an executive board room, and treated to a catered meal. During the presentation, they learned about the different offices, from the mayor's office to the departments that manage public services, like health, education, and urban planning.
Following the presentation and meal, the students were given a guided tour of the building. One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity to see several secure areas. These included the command center which monitors over 700 CCTV stations around the city, earthquake alerts, and air quality stations. Next, they went up to the 24th floor to view the dispatch center which coordinates emergency responses and takes calls from citizens calling the city’s emergency hotline. Finally, the students had a chance to view the helipad for a stunning 360-degree view of Makati and Metro Manila.
The field trip was not only educational, but also a fun experience, allowing students to gain a deeper appreciation for local governance. We hope that this experience encourages them to become more active citizens and interested in how their communities work.
A big thank you to the staff at Makati City Hall for making this field trip a memorable one, and to our wonderful chaperones for their support. We look forward to more hands-on learning experiences in the future!
