The Kangaroo Competition – Fun with Mathematics for Everyone!
The Kangaroo Competition is an international mathematics contest that excites students from over 80 countries every year. Since its founding in 1995 in Australia, the competition has quickly gained global recognition. In Germany, the competition has been held since 1995 and is now one of the largest mathematics events for students.
What is the Kangaroo Competition?
The Kangaroo Competition is known for its tricky yet fun tasks. It is aimed at students from grades 3 to 13 and challenges participants to demonstrate their mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills. The tasks are not only theoretical but also creative, promoting logical thinking and the ability to recognize mathematical relationships.
The competition consists of multiple-choice questions divided into various difficulty levels. Each question has only one correct answer, and there is a time limit to solve all the tasks. The questions cover a wide range of topics – from algebra to geometry to logic puzzles and number riddles.
Participation at the German School Manila
This year, all students from grades 3 to 9 in both the German and English sections of the German School Manila participated in the Kangaroo Competition. The competition was held on Thursday, March 20th, during the 3rd and 4th periods, simultaneously in all classes. It was an exciting and thrilling opportunity for all participants to showcase their mathematical skills and tackle the challenges of the competition.
Now, it remains exciting to see how many prizes our students will win this year. Last year, the German School Manila won several prizes in the first to third places – a great success we hope to repeat this year!
Why is the Kangaroo Competition So Popular?
The Kangaroo Competition not only provides the opportunity to test one's mathematical knowledge but also to have fun! Many students find the tasks engaging and challenging without feeling pressured. What makes this competition special is that it fosters an interest in mathematics while showing how versatile and entertaining mathematics can be.
Another highlight of the competition is the chance to win prizes. The best participants receive certificates, medals, and prizes such as mathematical games or books. However, even those who don't win a prize gain valuable experience and the opportunity to measure their skills against other mathematics enthusiasts.
