After two years of online Model UN, numerous obstacles including a last-minute rescheduling, a brave, yet determined group of GESM students were finally able to get into our face-to-face action at this year’s MUN Locals 2022. Six spirited delegates and advisor, Ms. Demet Uengoer, were graciously hosted by British School Manila in Bonificio Global City on Friday October 28th. They were joined by numerous international school participants from all over the Philippines, who were also eager to see each other in person and debate the hottest issues of our time.
Understandably, the focus of many committee topics centered on the international response to the Ukraine conflict as well as the tension in the South China Sea, refugee concerns, energy access in Europe and a host of other pressing topics consuming headlines around the world.
Participating in the event were IBDP students Shagorika Kar (Gr.11), Aryan Sharma (Gr.11) and Seung An (Gr.11). Additionally, Reeja Subramanian (Gr. 10) Navya Sharma (Gr. 10) and Hannah Seo (Gr. 10) rounded out GESM’s LOCALS 2022 conference delegates.
Given the fact that this event took place during our October break in the end, all of these students are to be commended for their desire and commitment to be involved and represent our school. Special mention goes to this year’s Secretary General, Shagorika Kar, who confidently and passionately led most of the preparation sessions during Monday Club and Activity time.
We are looking forward to our next event, which is normally Model United Nations Assembly, hosted for over twenty years by the Rotary Club of Makati. Stay tuned!
