On February 18, 2025, students at GESM taking up German history marked the 82nd anniversary of Sophie and Hans Scholl’s arrest in 1943. The Scholl siblings, members of the White Rose resistance group, bravely opposed the Nazi regime through non-violent resistance. Sophie was arrested after throwing anti-Nazi leaflets into the atrium of her university in Munich—an act that ultimately led to her execution just days later.
To honor this moment in history, GESM student Ahren reenacted Sophie Scholl’s defiance by scattering leaflets in the Eurocampus lobby. This symbolic gesture served as a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up for truth and justice, even in the face of great danger.
The 82nd anniversary of the Scholl siblings' execution will be observed on Saturday, February 22—a solemn day to reflect on their legacy and the continued fight for freedom and human rights.
