Tiki: Maori Mask Journey

based on text by Tanne Jacometti

The GESM Primary Art Club embarked on an exciting artistic journey that transcended borders, cultures, and continents. Their creative exploration commenced on their first meeting in the enchanting land of New Zealand, where they delved into the rich world of indigenous Maori art. The focus of their cultural expedition was the iconic Tiki masks, which have long held significance in Maori culture.

The young artists discovered that Tiki masks represent not only cultural symbols but also serve as a connection to ancestral spirits. With this newfound knowledge, the students eagerly began crafting their own Tiki masks, each infused with a blend of their individual creativity and respect for the Maori traditions.
